Considering discourses and practices of responsibility through a diversity of situations, Regimes of Responsibility in Africa raises crucial issues about the manifold ways responsibility is both experienced and distributed on the continent today. The editors have managed to bring an excellent range of established scholars work together, and deliver a strong argument for the inextricably intellectual and political relevance of further research on such regimes in Africa and beyond.

Grounded in both theory and ethnography, Social Im/mobilities in Africa advocates a multidimensional view of African societies, in which social positions consist of a variety of intersecting social powers or ‘capitals’. Against this backdrop, the book advances the notion of social im/mobilities to emphasize the uncertainties and complexities of current changes, taking us beyond the prism of a one-dimensional social ladder, for social moves cannot only be apprehended through the binaries of ‘gains’ and ‘losses’.
